third eye, second eye and first eye blind...
Ugh. This will be the third, yes THIRD time I've started this entry and, each time I write this, the tone becomes increasingly desperate. Hopefully the third time is a charm.
Mozilla has been giving me headaches in Linux like you wouldn't believe! Lemme back up and tell you the whole juicy story. Well, Mozilla 1.2.1 was released today, featuring Anti-aliased fonts, and, of course, risking all stability and reliability, I was one of the first owners of this new version. What I didn't realize is that I doomed myself to about three hours of hassling and haggling with psyche before I finally broke down and installed the old version. A note here, I doubt that this problem has anything to do with the developers of Mozilla as they engineer a very good product, but that it lies with my *secret* ninja n00bie skills of...... CrashFu! Heh heh.
Okay... my headache is taking over permanently now... so I'm going to finish here and maybe pick up where I left off in a few hours.
..blegh.
Mozilla working again!
I finally got Mozilla 1.2.1 working in Red Hat 8, and for kicks, I'm going to explain exactly what happened. My plan is to, starting now, document the solutions to all the problems I've had with linux (Even though it will probably be outdated soon :)). So, if you dont know, or care for that matter, what linux is, surf away.... now!
Problem: Mozilla 1.2.1 and 1.0 segfaults on startup after rebooting post-installation in RH 8.0 (Psyche) 2.4.18-18.8.0
Solution: After a
strace mozillaI figured out that after installing TrueType fonts from my windows partition to /usr/share/fonts/ttf/, I forgot to chmod 777 the fonts verdana.ttf and other incarnations of verdana. So a simple
chmod 777 /usr/share/fonts/ttf/*fixed it. Mozilla was hitting these fonts, seeing that they were read-only and segfaulting, for what reason, who knows? Logically, Mozilla can still display fonts if they are read-only, and in fact, there is no reason for Mozilla to have write access to these fonts.
one more week... then clandestine liberation for another three!
well I am now embarking on what uci students like to call "Hell Week". Im sure of this because of all the hell that insues due to rampant studying and massive testing. Gosh, so much has been happening lately. Jon fixed my red hat 8.0 installation and now it purs like a massively complex, rabid penguin.

gosh... my jokes are so crappy. anyway, on with other things. Ive been searching for an mp3 tagger/renamer that checks up with cddb and grabs the song titles in linux. for windows, i use psychic mp3 (one of my fav. freeware applications) but I need one in linux to complete the move ;). hopefully soon, im going to switch webhosts to tgpsolutions because I am having so many problems with lahostnet and besides, since its run by Jon and his friend Bailey, i know that everything will be rock solid and secure (plus, I can download tons of anime ;)), so be prepared to find getcoded.net down for a few days. other than that, im gearing up for xmas... hopefully i can get the cube finished (my happy little pvr software) enough for my parents to use it (which will be the toughest part!) u/f, i will have to write it in VB because it is the only language that I know end to end, so it might be a little slow... when I finish it, I will open source it for people to see how crappy my programming style really is!
right now, im staring at my juice-it-up cup (this has been sitting on my desk since wednesday of LAST week), contemplating if I should throw it away or not... for now, i think ill let the mold grow more :).
what else... gosh im tired... i think im going to cut this short tonight and continue tomorrow morning when im more coherent. but since when has that made a difference?

this is a blog... only a blog.
well ben and nicole left the hall tonight for the extended winter break... leaving me the only person of our "bunch". Unfortunatley, this means that I will be extremely bored for the next two days... having meals and studying... alone. blah.
I had a wonderful dinner at Jon and Kathy's apartment last night... they cooked Tortellini with Chicken and Vegetables. I havent had a meal like that in months! It was delicious! Their apartment is beautiful(and comfortable) also-- even though I've been there before, each time, I want to move out of the dorms even more!
Boy, I better hurry this up! I started at 7:58pm and now its 8:30!! ;) :) laterz dudes!

the lan party was fun, except my sgi piece of crap montior blew up.... the multilink adapter is such a poorly engineered peice of equipment... shit, I just found out that my memory is bad-- subtract $200 from christmas money, leaving nothing.
fuck.
at least I have... health.
