the reason for the season... is pleasin'!
midterms are over, thank gawd. i think i single-handedly ran on the least hours of sleep in my life.
ever.
i studied like a mofo for every class-- mostly with jon, thankfully, someone to share the pain-- and i got excellent midterm scores. for those of you who dont know, i generally do very poorly on midterms and then bring my grades up by the final. but this time was different... one A-, a B, a B+ and a fuzzy cloud hovering over my hong kong action cinema grade. i was happy to have the whole ordeal over, done with, finished, terminated, etc, but i was astounded at how apathetic i was about all of it.
i dont know... it seems like recently i have been overly disconnected with life. i mean, im _here_, but its like my mind is off in outer space. with the aliens.
its like i've lost my purpose in life which is, of course, to rule the world with an iron fist. or was it an iron monkey?
sad phone. =(
i dropped my l33t "nat friedman" cellphone today. i'm so depressed. really-- this is the coolest phone in the world and i single-handedly desecrated its untarnished silver shell. this is just another instance of me being overly careless with my stuff. ugh.
do you ever have those moments where you think back on something really really stupid that you did a long time ago and just want to find the nearest blunt, semi-pointy object and hurl the closest body part against it? *sigh* dropping my phone was one of those moments. oh, and being an a-hole to jane is another. and that time in middle school in mr. goldstein's class when I was reading Poe's "The Bells" in front of class and the line read "And he rolls, rolls, rolls,; Rolls" and, instead of reading it, i started rolling on the ground... i just imagine myself jabbing an unsharpened pencil into the soft flesh, again, again, again to the rhythmic throbbing of the bells... pwahahahaha
no, im not crazy... im random. its natural. i just have an overactive imagination and masochistic tendancies.
clothes.
today is laundry day. exciting isn't it?
this weekend I hung around with manda. twas lots 'o fun! almost as much as fun as halloween, which was also a blast. unfortunately eariler on the 31st, jon and I had our math midterm. we were supposed to study at like 6, but I didnt get up til 9... it worked out though. I grabbed some corporate coffee ('bucks) for both of us and managed to get my grande chai all over my anti-riaa shirt, just reinforcing my level of tiredosity to the world. i sware, at that point, I could only focus on math and nothing more. and as a *bonus*, I ended up doing stellar on my midterm (an 87, which, on Petrov's scaled scoring method, is a fatty A-) which is pretty nice, seeing as I suck at math. but all that sleep loss came at a price-- all five of us (jon, kathy, manda, myself and I) ended up crashing at around 1:00 am. party poopers! but we were still able to get some geeky email checking time, a nice dinner at Oriental Kitchen, most of Dreamcatcher and some random eps of Friends.
in other news, i'm running out of hard drive space on magneto, my server. i was originally under the impression that 320 GB of space would be _plenty_ for anything we could throw at it. but, in under 4 months, we've done quite alot of damage:
magneto:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 125G 100G 19G 84% /
/dev/hda1 23M 6.8M 14M 32% /boot
/dev/hdb1 150G 34G 109G 24% /var/tv
magneto:~# du -csh /var/video /var/tv /var/music
42G /var/video
34G /var/tv
15G /var/music
89G total
fun stuff! I guess this means none other than RAIDZILLA!!!
oh yeah, and it was Chris' birthday on october 30th! john, shiraz, judy and I got him this cake:
oh yeah, baby. gimme some of 'dat sweet, sweet s-h-a-double-n-on! =P
YOUR MOM!
err, happy birthday!bling bling!!!!!1
not to brag or anything, but
I AM SO $MONEY$!!!
I got an A on my in class essay for writing! I'm seriously not trying to brag here, but I thought _fo' sho_ that I was going to fail that paper... and according to UCI Composition Department-- if you fail one paper, you get an F in the class. So, I'm happy and I rock.
/* Update:
* Heres what Strenski said (in her chicken scratch) about my paper:
"Brad,
This is an excellent analysis (The initial sketch outlining the paper's argument and support is an excellent strategy because I see how the paper would end if completed.
Even though it is a little incomplete. The paper is excellent because it is tightly argued, with good reasons, and stay fosued on BE and the extent to which the sources do (or do not) support her.Well done! It is also quite eloquent. You have real stylistic flair as a writer-- a pleasure to read."
* Boo yeah, baby!
*
* Later, she added...
"You rock the hizzle fo' shizzle, my nigga! u r teh l33t!!!1"*
*/
stop the caring... and bring the swearing!
gawd... I am so lazy.
today, my alarm clock failed to go off... I secretly believe that my alter "night-time" persona woke up when I was sleeping and turned off the alarm. maybe that isnt the most probable possibility, but perhaps I heard the alarm and then smacked the off button before I woke up. well, however I did it, I was 5 minutes late to math discussion, thanks only to my habit of waking up every hour to check the clock, quick showering skills and crazy driving. I'm tempted to let magneto manage my alarm like I used to... but unfortunately, this means that there is no way for me to stop the alarm (other than having my computer on), thusly (yea, thusly, gawsh darn it) it won't work unless I want Chris to beat the crap out of me at 7:00 am. I feel like cracking open my trusty alarm of almost 10 years and de-soldering the off button. unfortunately, if I did that, I wouldn't be able to stop the alarm once it was going, again, pissing off Chris. I guess I'll figure something out.
back to the first paragraph... I am so lazy! I'm writing this entry in Hong Kong Action film class... its so boring.
my desktop phoenix is on the fritz again! my freaking mobo hardlocks when the load goes up to 100%, i.e.: games, program loads, most anything kills it. ugh. well, I went to frys today and bought a new board, although its not really new as most things are at frys-- its been returned and supposedly "tested" afterward. I want to see how they rigorously test these boards, really. but, my plan after this class is to test it out and see if it works. i may also replace phoenix's hard drive-- jon and I took it out of the rack case that it was in originally and the heat must have warped something cuz its freaking loud. a new 60 gb drive is almost $80 and $120 for sata... ugh. way too expensive!
I had a fun time on friday-- jon, manda, kathy and I played broomball with AED at Disney Ice in Orange. Broomball is a lot like hockey, except you use a little fucked-up stick (which happened to be ludicriously short for those taller than 5 ft) to hit a soccer ball sized puck. Oh, and you play with tennis shoes on ice! it sounded fun originally, but the "snow" on the surface of the ice gets quickly stuck in the divots of your shoe soles and makes your feet into a thin sheet of ice. as you can guess, slippage is quite frequent and also quite painful. I have *happy* bruises on both hips, on my left palm and on my tailbone... whee!!! Jon, Kathy and Amanda all blogged about this adventure. We are such nerds.
Oooh... We get to watch "The Heroic Trio" in Hong Kong Action film... quite exciting.
Ok, I think thats enough for now =)
running on empy...
you really know when you're running on empty when you even mispell the word empty.
this quarter sucks balls-- monkey balls to be precise. thankfully, my classes are fairly easy, but between doing work (whether its for school or clients) and thinking about and researching for work (you know who), im _really_ starting to feel the wear and tear of the daily grind.
ok, im going to sleep.
